Richie Spice and The 5th Element Roster

With so many 7000 dollar shirts going around it’s amazing how few 7000
dollar websites adorn the musics of the FUBU conscious, but you can
excuse Richie Spice and the 5th element crew hailing from Kingston
because they ain’t at the P-diddy level yet. Profiled here by Xlr8r’s
Thomas Palmero The 5th Element crew is using the
electro-klunk of 90s raging thug infused dancehall for the traditional
pilgrimage back to the roots movement that marks any music that sells
more than 5 copies worldwide. Richie’s Galang Yah Gal might be
the perfect compliment to Dizze’s grime anthem Stand Up Tall,
but most of Richie’s output emphases the soul-full joints that mark
Wackie’s 12″s and studio one plates. He’s a crooner more than a MC.
Similar, if not higher compliments, can be thrown at Chuck Fenda who’s
riddims and approach remind of Sizzla’s more roots-ee numbers. Even
Anthony Cruz, who’s press photo is priceless, sounds good. So much good
music in a site that’s use of flash is so primitivist it might one day
hang in a museum next to
Bill
Traylor
.

Los Latigos

Kinda like a blend of John’s Children, The Velvets, and Twink in one
package.
Another charmingly eccentric child of the southern continents, Los
Latigos
hail from Argentinean and definitely nail that British shoe-box quality
of
pop post-mod but pre-beatles with a touch of the softish guitar that
made
say early Flaming Lips so enjoyable.

Luces Sensacional

No Te Expreses

I might add a lot of Argentenian’s
Secsy
Disco’s
label is quite
good.
Pornois is good new wave.
